I wanted to share an activity I did with my twins yesterday. Called Ressurection Eggs. They had items you would find around the house, each representing a day of Holy Week. We did this all in one day, but you can do this each day if you would like. I will post the link below the picture so you can get the directions.

Autopilot

Some of you have children at all ages and stages of life. From babies to toddlers. Than school aged to teenagers. Finally, young adults. For the most part, you live your busy lives day in and day out, doing what you always do. The same routine every day. A few small things might change. But mostly it’s the same routine day in and day out. Ever feel like you’re on autopilot?

This thought came to me the other day while talking to my youngest daughter. See, she is 12 now, along with her twin brother, who is also 12. Lately, they’ve been asking questions about their life when they were younger, and I tell them the stories and show them the pictures.

When I go back to look at the pictures of my children when they were young, I think, “Where has the time gone?” The emotions well up, and I feel like I’ve missed out on their life. Like it all flashed by. The one that hit me the most is my oldest daughter.

She is now 20 and away at college. I am proud of her for growing up into a beautiful, smart young lady. I can’t help but miss her, though.

I scroll through my phone’s gallery, looking at some of the pictures I took from my younger days. Some of them were taken by my oldest child when she was young.

Then I look at them all now. How grown up they all look, and either are or will be. “Was I on autopilot for some of their lives and just forgot what we did?” “How did they go from being such young, cute toddlers to beautiful preteens and a young adult?"

Have you thought that about your kids? Have you looked back and reflected on the lives you lived? Is this just a me thing?

I tell you, friends, take the time now to get the hugs and kisses. Take the time now to be present in your kids’ lives. I know life gets hectic and busy, but don’t go into autopilot mode. Make the memories that are worth making. Take lots of pictures. Spend as much time as you can together. The time with your kids as kids is short. 18 years is a short time to make memories with your kids. Be Present.

Mother's and hospice

Recently I had to put my mother on hospice care. She is slowly declining and the doctor and the Care team at her care center agreed she would be a good candidate for hospice.

Let me clarify, being on hospice doesn't mean it's the end of life. It can also mean just more care for her and our family. Some people have graduated from hospice and lived a longer life. But hospice care givers can advocate for your loved one. Then they can determine if they are ready for end of life care.

My mom is a wonderful person. I have always looked up to her. She has always had a kind of strength that is sort of hidden to the naked eye. My mom is and always has been a quiet person. She's always been there when I needed her. She has got me through a lot of rough times.

You see she has vascular dementia. She also has a growth on her esophagus. All of this is leading up to her declining health. I've been lucky to have all of the extra time I have had with her. Especially in the past 3 years. When her health started to drastically decline. Something I wasn't ready for. 😢

Growing up I used to say my parents would live forever. That they'd go to heaven when Jesus came back for us and I'd be with them. Maybe it's some type of wishful thinking or maybe it's some kind of fantasy world.

Now as an adult I have learned the reality of declining health and I have seen the results. Working in healthcare teaches you this kind of stuff.

Even though I'm not ready for mom to go meet our father in heaven, I know she will be at peace and she will be with the rest of the family up their.

The Idea behind my book came from a friend back in high school who was sexually assaulted at a party. I didn't go, but some of my friends did. I was there for the fallout. Although I wasn't there for the ending and didn't know if the guy got charged, I did help her through the initial process. I always wondered what would happen if I knew. So I took it upon myself to create a fictional story about a girl who emerges strong and overcomes a particularly challenging situation in her life.

Twin Mom

Ever wonder what it would be like to be a twin mom? Ever wish your single child had a sibling exactly their age?

If you're saying yes, then listen up. I am a twin mom. I have a set of fraternal twins, one boy, one girl. As of this writing, they are 11 years old. Going to be 12 in November. For privacy, I will tell you their nicknames. Sis and Pip. Their nicknames came from another child I used to babysit when they were little, and she couldn't pronounce their name. So we kept it at Sis and Pip. They've been Sis and Pip ever since.

Let me tell you, though, being a twin mom hasn't been easy. When they were infants, it felt like a dream that never ended. One would settle and go to sleep, the other would wake up. Eventually, I did get them on the same cycle, but this took some time.

When they were toddlers, it was just as fun!! The running, jumping, screaming days of the terrible two's!!! Oh did I mention biting? Sis thought her brother Pip was her chew toy and she could sink her teeth in him whenever she felt was necessary.

Running was is an understatement. These two knew how to run!!! Well escape also. They got out the front door once before mommy and big sis actually knew. Decided to run out the front door and down the street in their little diapers and t-shirts. Before you freak out this was a very hot day. This sent me into a panic and I went after one while big sis went after the other. They ran down two whole blocks before we dragged them kicking and screaming all the way home.

Right now we are in the preteen stage. All the sarcasm, sass. and crazy dialect they use for words that mean the total opposite of what their supposed to. Most of them I don't understand. Some I get but just don't understand. This is a fun stage for me. Getting to know who they are as a person and learning their own individuality.

Being a twin mom is great!! With all of the ups and downs, its the most rewarding time one could have. I wouldn't trade it for the world.
